How To Add Flavor To Your Food Without Adding Calories

Cilantro:

Taste: Cilantro has a strong flavor with a hint of citrus and anise.
Best for: Use cilantro in fish and chicken dishes, salads, stir-fries, and soups.
Tip: Since cilantro does not keep well, you should cover it with a damp cloth and store it in the refridgerator within a perforated plastic bag to make it stay fresh longer.

Thyme:

Taste: Thyme has a spicy, savory flavor that is slightly pungent.
Best for: Use thyme in meat and vegetable dishes.
Tip: Since thyme stands up well to heat, you can add it to your dish at any point during the cooking process.

Basil:

Taste: Basil tastes similar to thyme, but with a clove-like flavor.
Best for: Use basil in tomato, pesto, vegetable, and egg dishes.
Tip: To achieve the strongest flavor, rather than cutting up the leaves, tear them apart.

If you can, be sure to use fresh herbs rather than dried. Not only do fresh herbs provide stronger and better flavors, but you also get a whole host of antioxidants and other nutrients as well.
