The Weight Loss Cure Infomercial

If you are reading this review, then you must have seen an infomercial come on television with Kevin Trudeau, #1 New York Times Best-selling Author, describing his new book - The Weight Loss Cure "They" Don't Want You to Know About. The "cure" is described as a revolutionary plan discovered by a prominent physician, Dr. A.T.W. Simeons, with Trudeau proclaiming that all a person has to do on this plan is "follow the directions and the weight will fall off. No dieting, no exercise, no hunger, no surgery and you will burn fat even while you sleep." Mr. Trudeau goes on to state that the secret of this plan was revealed covertly through royal households and has been used by Hollywood celebrities and the rich and famous for years. He also claims that the "cure" for weight loss has been "suppressed by the American Medical Association, the FDA, and medical associations around the world." Amazingly, this secret "cure" can now be yours for only $29.95 plus an additional $18.95 for Express Shipping. So, is Kevin Trudeau's The Weight Loss Cure "They" Don't want You to Know About a miracle cure or too good to be true?

A Review of Kevin Trudeau's The Weight Loss Cure - Miracle Cure or Scam?

The Weight Loss Cure Book The book is a little over 250 pages in length and describes how a person can lose 30 pounds in thirty days or more and never re-gain the weight again. Unfortunately, the writing is scattered and reads like a cheesy motivational speaker who has attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Trudeau just paraphrases and repeats the exact same stuff literally over and over and over again. You have to wait until you get to page 73 until he actually starts to give any real advice. The majority of the advice that he does give is widely promoted in a lot of health magazines for a fraction of the cost of the book.

As for the obesity "cure", it consists of three phases. Phase 1 takes 30 days to complete and consists of a series of Do's and Don'ts, 60 to be exact. All of the foods that you are allowed to eat have to be 100% organic and you are only allowed to eat a total of 500 calories per day. You must also go to a doctor every other day for a colon cleansing, liver cleansing, and a heavy metal cleansing. Furthermore, you have to buy at least nine different pills to take everyday. (Trudeau has included websites where you can purchase all of these things. Not surprisingly, all of these sites are Trudeau's.) [1]

A major problem with a 500-calorie daily diet is that it is a semi-starvation diet. You are litteraly starving yourself to lose weight. This is not healthy and is likely to result in loss of protein from vital organs. Organ damage and/or failure is a real possibility and definitely not worth the risk. Your body needs sufficient amounts of nutrients, vitamines, and minerals not only to keep organs functioning, but to just maintain basic cellular processes. As for the colon cleansings, how in the world a person is supposed get 15 colon cleansings in a month, let alone afford them at about $150 a visit, is a little hard to fathom. For those who cannot afford colonics every other day, you may be able to substitute them with an over the counter enema instead. Not sure how effective that would be, however.

If you make it through Phase I, Phase II lasts for 45 days. During Phase II you are required to get an injection of Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) everyday, along with doing the things in Phase I. HCG is a hormone that is used for different reasons in men and women. HCG has actions similar to a hormone produced by the pituitary gland in both sexes, called LH, or luteinizing hormone. HCG can help women with fertility problems. To increase a woman's chance of getting pregnant, HCG is used in combination with other fertility drugs. For some men or adolescent males, HCG helps to stimulate the production of testosterone (male sex hormone) and sperm. HCG may also be used in select male children with cryptorchidism, a specific birth problem of the testes (male sex part). HGC injections are available from many manufacturers, but not all brands are interchangeable. [2]

Not once in his infomercial does Trudeau mention the 45 injections of HCG you must take if you are to lose 30 pounds in 30 days. But even more distressing is that no evidence has been presented to substantiate claims for HCG as a weight-loss aid. Both the FDA and the American Medical Association have stated that it is useless for weight loss. An article in the Journal of the American Medical Association in 1974 stated:

"No convincing scientific evidence exists that human chorionic gonadotropin has any pharmacologic effect in weight reduction. Hence, claims to the public that such effects do occur are a misrepresentation of the scientific facts."

The FDA requires that all labeling and advertising of HCG state that it has not been demonstrated to be effective in the treatment of obesity. The ads must also state that HCG is not approved by the FDA as safe and effective in the treatment of obesity or weight control. [3]

What you should tell your health care provider before you take HGC.
They need to know if you have any of these conditions:
•asthma
•cyst on the ovary
•heart disease
•migraine
•kidney disease
•ovarian cancer or other female-related cancer
•prostate cancer or other male cancer
•seizures (convulsions)
•an unusual or allergic reaction to HCG, other hormones, medicines, foods, dyes, or preservatives
•pregnant (this medicine should not be used if you are already pregnant)
•breast feeding [3]

Phase III is the same as Phase I protocol. [1]

After reading through all of this, Trudeau tells the reader that if you ever eat anything that is not 100% organic you will gain the weight back. He then states that if you would like to go to one of the clinics who administer this diet you can go to his web site for a list. However, when you get to his site you will find out that you have to subscribe to his newsletter for another $9.95 a month.

Doesn't Look Good Folks -

Kevin Trudeau's The Weight Loss Cure "They" Don't Want You to Know About, claims that "an absolute cure for obesity was discovered almost fifty years ago" but was "suppressed" by the AMA, the FDA, and "other medical establishments throughout the world." Trudeau further claims that until now, "this miracle weight loss breakthrough has been hidden from the public so that drug companies can make billions of dollars selling their expensive drug treatments and surgical procedures for obesity." The alleged cure consists of HCG injections plus 60 required and recommended do's and don'ts. [4]

More than 50 years ago, Dr. Albert T. Simeons, a British-born physician, contended that HCG injections would enable dieters to subsist comfortably on a 500-calorie-a-day diet and that HCG would mobilize stored fat; suppress appetite; and redistribute fat from the waist, hips, and thighs. However, there is no scientific evidence to support these claims. Furthermore, a 500-calorie (semi-starvation) diet is likely to result in loss of protein from vital organs, and HCG can cause other adverse effects. [4]

In September 2007, the FTC charged Kevin Trudeau with violating a court order by misrepresenting the contents of the book. In infomercials, Trudeau falsely claimed that the book's weight-loss plan is easy to do, can be done at home, and ultimately allows readers to eat whatever they want. Previous FTC action had led to a court order banning from using infomercials to sell any product, service, or program except for books and other publications. The order specified that he not misrepresent the content of the books. The FTC is now charging that he violated that narrow exemption. [4]

Not only can the scheduled doctor visits, buying of organic foods, and HCG be very expensive for the average consumer, it also appears that The Weight Loss Cure is virtually impossible to follow and unproven to work. Red warning signs should be going off in your head about now after reading the information in this review; especially the part about Trudeau being charged by the FTC with misrepresenting the contents of the book. This program looks like a big waste of time and an even bigger waste of money.

If you are looking for a magic pill, shot, or wrap to lose weight you are going to be very disappointed because none exist. If you want to flush your money down the drain buying every miracle "cure" that is out there that's your choice. But why spend your money on unproven, unfounded weight loss products, when you can just as easily spend it on programs proven to work? Buy healthy foods and a gym membership. Eating a healthy diet and exercising regularly is the most effective way to lose weight. It is also much safer and affordable than stomach surgeries.

The Sedona Method

I hope A Review of Kevin Trudeau's The Weight Loss Cure - Miracle Cure or Scam? has been helpful for those out there considering buying this program. Like most things in life, if things appear too good to be true they usually are. Trust your initial instincts of skepticism on this one and walk away. The only thing that you will lose on this program is your money.
